PRODUCT NOTE

For the sake of simplicity and flow of reading, this article uses the word nControl for all 3D perception's control system software. However, if you have CompactControl installed on in your system, you can still follow this articles suggestions. The article also refers to 3D perception's nBox, but the suggestion is applicable for UTM and Megawall products as well.

INTRODUCTION

In some cases an upgrade of the nBox firmware is needed. To be able to upgrade the firmware on the nBox, you will be needing a PC running nControl and connected to LAN port 1 on the nBox.

SETTING UP LAN COMMUNICATION

  • Make sure that the PC running nControl is connected via LAN to the nBox LAN1 port.
  • Make sure that the IP range of the PC is within the IP range of the nBox. The nBox default IP is 192.168.1.200.

To verify that you have configured the  IP settings correctly, click on the 3DP icon in the left corner of the nControl software. Then navigate to Maintenance/Devices as shown in the image below.

The "Device maintenance" window will now pop up. The nBox will have a MAC address listed as   and end with /MWC If the MAC-address of the nBox is displayed in green, then nControl is communicating with the nBox. If it is displayed in red or not showing, then there is no established connection. Reading the article Troubleshooting network issues, is a good place to start in order to identify your communication issue.

If your nBox is listed, you can check the currently running firmware in the column Software version.

NOTE: If you have more then one nBox on your system, it is good idea to knwo which MAC-address belongs to which nBox in your rack. is which. Check the MAC-address listed in Device Maintenance with the Device address displayed in the front display on your nBox. To navigate to the Device address on the front display panel on the nBox, please check the nBox User Manual

UPDATING FIRMWARE

  • Click on the nBox address so it is high-lighted in blue
  • Right click on the MAC-address
  • Select "Update Software..."

  • A warning will be displayed informing you that the previously installed software (firmware) will be deleted.
  • Click "Yes"

  • The "Select software update file" window will pop-up.
  • Navigate to the mw2app file which has been provided by a 3D perception support representative. For this example we will use "mw2app_1_6_6222.hex"
  • Click "Open"

  • The "Software update progress" window will start.
  • nControl will now start the initial process of updating the software.

  • While this initial software process starts the nBox will display this message:

  • After a while nControl prompts  with the message "Writing to device"

  • nBox will then display the message "Software upgrade in progress. Please wait"

Wen the progress bar on the "Software update progress" window is finished, the nBox will restart.
After the nBox has fully restarted (can take several minutes), check the "Software Version" in the "Device Maintenance" window. You should now see the newly upgraded firmware version.
